With Carlos Ponce in the room, it's impossible to concentrate on anything else when we meet up with the sexy superstar to chat about his role as Model Latina South Beach's new celebrity judge.
In fact, he's so hot that it leads us to wonder why the impossibly photogenic actor-singer has never added modeling to his resume.
"Well, to be honest, I don't like getting pictures taken," Carlos says with a laugh. "My father and the mother of my children are photographers, so there have always been cameras around. But I'm not intrigued by that sort of standing there and posing for photographs. Plus, I can hardly stand still for five minutes. So, it's never been my thing. I don't have a passion for it."
Speaking of passion…what’s it take for a lady to really stand out in Carlos’ eyes – onscreen and off?
"I'm biased. I'm Cuban -- born in Puerto Rico -- and I think Latina women are the most beautiful women in the world," says Carlos, who was born in Santurce, raised in Humacao, and later moved to Miami. "Latinas that really stand out to me do so because they have a confidence and grace that is empowering; they're self-assured, they turn heads just by the way they look and carry themselves. They're alluring, elegant, gorgeous – you just can't take your eyes off of them. But like I said, I'm biased." he adds with a smile.

This season on Model Latina, 10 aspiring models from around the world crank the sexy factor to 11 and shake up SoBe with runway challenges, style showdowns and ego clashes. And Carlos is there to keep the catwalk creative and dump the divas that fizzle instead of sizzle.
"Some people hope they have star quality, and some people are just born with it but are too shy or didn't have the right opportunity, and it takes a competition like this to really find that diamond in the rough -- and this competition has many diamonds," he says about his celebrity judge duties. "I'm excited to be a part of this show and represent us Latinos in the American market because I think we're still a little stereotyped and a show like this can really open up people's eyes to all the different unique and wonderful personalities."
Beautiful women, Latina empowerment and soaking up the sun in SoBe seems like the makings for one unforgettable summer. But even with all this, there is one particularly sexyModel Latina moment that Carlos will never forget.
"Dressing in a captain’s uniform and sailing the ocean with a deck full of beautiful Latina women -- that certainly stands out," he says. "The setting couldn't have been more perfect, and the view from the deck -- and on the deck -- was wonderful."
